Why sports apps feel more like digital leisure

I’ve been thinking about how differently I use sports apps now compared to a couple of years ago. Back then, it felt more structured, almost like you had to really focus on what you were doing. Now it’s way more relaxed, like something you open just to pass time. Do you think this shift is because people want simpler experiences, or are developers intentionally making everything feel lighter and more engaging?

Funny you mention that, because I recently read an article https://newsbarrier.com/why-sports-betting-apps-are-now-judged-as-entertainment-products-first/ that dives into exactly this topic, and I honestly enjoyed it more than I expected. It talks about how these platforms are now being shaped primarily as entertainment experiences, rather than something heavy or complicated. What I liked most is how it explains the design choices — everything from visuals to user flow is built to keep things simple and engaging.
