VPN and Online Anonymity

I tried one briefly while working from a shared network, and it felt like things were more secure, but I’m not sure if that’s the same as being truly anonymous. For example, if I log into my usual accounts or browse normally, does a VPN still hide who I am, or does it mainly just mask my location? Curious how people see this in real use.

I’ve learned, a VPN helps by hiding your IP address and encrypting your traffic, so your activity is less visible to your internet provider or others on the same network. But it doesn’t make you completely anonymous, especially if you’re logged into services that already know who you are. I started looking into this after using public Wi-Fi more often, and I realized it’s more about adding a layer of privacy than becoming invisible. I came across https://toggle.org/ while reading about how these services handle connections, and it helped me understand that things like encryption and routing play a bigger role than people expect. It’s useful, but not a total solution on its own.
