"Zero Waste Day" to Celebrate Earth Day!
Boys & Girls Clubs is having a “Zero Waste Day” to Celebrate Earth Day
Kansas City, Missouri, April 21, 2010 – With spring coming and the weather warming, more and more children are spending time outside. To teach kids more about environmental responsibility and to celebrate Earth Day, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City is having a “Zero Waste Day” on Thursday, April 22nd starting at 3:00 P.M. at the Thornberry Unit at 43rd and Cleveland.
The “Zero Waste Day” comes in conjunction with Boys & Girls Clubs’ National “Go Green Week” to promote environmental responsibility and accountability. Gary Walker, “The King of Green,” and founder of Magic Touch Cleaning is partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City to put on the day’s events.
Activities will include teaching the kids environmentally safe practices, how and why to recycle and why kids need to take ownership of their environments. Kids will also participate in a neighborhood cleanup around each of the five Club sites.
The schedule for Club visits is:
Thornberry Unit - 3:00 pm
East Side Unit - 3:30 pm
Wyandotte Couty Unit - 4:00 pm
Hawthorne/Leslie Unit - 4:30 pm
John Winnett, VP of Development, Marketing and Public Relations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City says, “The goal of the 'Zero Waste Day' is to have children take ownership of their environment, whether it’s their school, home, Club or neighborhood. Kids need to know what they’re doing is having an impact and it’s their choice whether to make that impact positive or negative.”
