Kansas City, MO – Julie Andrews, John Lithgow, Sidney Poitier, John Travolta, Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Muhammad Ali, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. are among some of “A” list celebrities who have been featured at the Clubs’ annual benefit for kids. Academy Award, Golden Globe & Emmy winning actor Michael Douglas will headline the 2010 Kids Night Out event at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City on February 24, 2010.
Douglas, a star with over 30 years of experience in theatre, film and television is most well-known for his starring roles in such films as Wall Street and The American President. Most recently, he received the American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award – following in the footsteps of his father, Kirk – and the first time that two generations of a family have won the coveted award.
“Our annual Kids Night Out event has become a ‘must-attend’ event in our community,” said David A. Smith, president and club alumnus of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. “Each year, we bring Hollywood’s top talent to Kansas City to inspire hope and create opportunities for thousands of young people served by the Clubs.”
Presented by Honorary Chairs Cliff & Bonne Illig, Kids Night Out will raise funds to support the operations of five area Club locations serving over 1,000 youth each day – and all money raised stays right here in Kansas City.
Since 1912, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City has provided quality youth development activities for boys and girls, with special emphasis on youth from disadvantaged circumstances. Whether it’s digital arts and movie making, learning to make healthy choices or how to throw a curve ball on the baseball field, the Boys & Girls Clubs are the home of fun, character and leadership for young people ages 5-18. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City has 5 locations in KCMO and Kansas City, KS, serving over 6,000 boys and girls each year.
